Harley-Davidson today announced the first model from the new all-electric LiveWire brand. The first bike with the new logo is called LiveWire ONE and is significantly cheaper than the previous LiveWire electric motorcycle from Harley-Davidson.
The original Harley-Davidson LiveWire, valued at $ 29,799, was launched back in 2019.
It was widely praised for its performance and design, but suffered from its high price.
Now the bike has been relaunched under the new LiveWire brand with a sharp drop in prices. The new MSRP starts at just $ 21,999. Including federal electric motorcycle tax credits of up to $ 2,500 will bring the total cost to under $ 20,000 for many riders.
The LiveWire ONE’s styling and specifications are largely the same as the original LiveWire, although more color options appear to be available.
City range is reported as 146 miles (235 km), which is exactly the range of the original LiveWire. HD didn’t provide us with highway range specifications, but the original LiveWire achieved a range of just under 80 miles (129 km) at 112 km / h, so the LiveWire ONE should achieve similar results when using the same battery – which it appears to be is.
The bike also has a DC fast charge that can be charged from 0-100% in 60 minutes or from 0-80% in 45 minutes. A more realistic real-world scenario is the 20-80% load time, which is not listed but is likely closer to 30 minutes.
LiveWire didn’t share engine details, but it appears to have the same 78 kW (105 hp) electric motor that took the previous LiveWire to an electronically limited top speed of 110 mph (177 km / h). The previous LiveWire also repeatedly achieved a 0-60 mph time of around 3.0-3.1 seconds.
Interestingly, LiveWire takes a different approach to sales by starting with a largely online ordering process. The LiveWire ONE will initially be available in the three states of California, Texas and New York before it will be available in additional dealers and states in the fall.
The move shows that Harley-Davidson didn’t just kick the can on the street when it decided to spin off an all-electric brand earlier this year instead of building electric bikes under the HD badge. Instead, the long-established motorcycle manufacturer is now aggressively expanding its potential market reach.
The lower price and online ordering process both show that LiveWire is trying to appeal to younger and more urban drivers – a key demographic that largely determines the success or failure of the new brand.
As HD boss Jochen Zeitz explained:

We recognized the pioneering spirit and brand value of LiveWire for our community and decided to develop the original LiveWire motorcycle into our own EV brand. Today’s LiveWire ONE builds on Harley-Davidson’s DNA, but with the electrical focus and ambition of the new LiveWire brand. Harley-Davidson and LiveWire will continue to rewrite the motorcycle rulebook and we look forward to this next chapter in our legacy. “
Now the question arises: “Will it work?”
Current industry leader Zero Motorcycles is already selling a premium electric motorcycle that can measure up to the LiveWire ONE. In fact, I’ve ridden both and compared them last year. Both are great bikes, but Zero still wins when it comes to price – even with the new cheaper LiveWire ONE price.
Zero is also available across the country and around the world, unlike LiveWire ONE’s limited edition version that was only released in three US states – plus, Zero has a new model next week that could shake things up again.
